However, there are old models and some basic types of rice cookers that are made of aluminum or stainless cooking pot. The bowl or cooking pot is removable. This is where the water and rice is placed directly for cooking. Beneath the cooking pot or the bowl is the heater. If the rice cooker is an upgraded part, a thermostat comes with the heater. These two parts are the main component of a rice cooker.

In order to have a good thermal contact and to ensure accurate temperature or heat measurement, a spring pushes the thermostat against the bottom of the cooking pot. The water and rice are being cooked at the highest or boiling point temperature, but never above the boiling point of water, which is one hundred degrees Celsius (100C) or two hundred, twelve degrees Fahrenheit (212F). Once the water begins to boil, the rice grains will begin to be cooked and its texture and size changes and increases. Most of the water will be absorbed by the rice and any excess water will be boiled off the rice cooker. Most rice cookers have a small dispenser where excess water that is being boiled off will be catch there.

Once the temperature exceeds the boiling point, the thermostat will automatically controls the heat and switches to a warm cook mode. A few more minutes will turn the grains into perfectly cooked rice. The warm cook mode of a rice cooker is not cooler than one hundred fifty degrees Celsius to keep the rice warm. Upgraded versions would automatically turn off at this temperature.
